GODAN Executive Director, Andre Laperriere, was in Nairobi last week to meet with and sign several Memoranda of Understanding alongside pivotal GODAN partners and key players in the international development and open data sectors in the region. These MoU support the 2017 Nairobi Declaration, and pave the way for increased efforts in open data capacity development and policy advisory work within the African region.

The joint GODAN-LDRI MoU seeks to support open data advocacy efforts in the region and help create an enabling environment for human capital development, and sustainable financing for the use of open data for development in Africa. Through this joint agreement, GODAN will work with LDRI to end extreme poverty, hunger and inequalities accross the continent.
GODAN and LDRI will work together to strengthen co-operation between GODAN members and the LDRI Africa Open Data Network (AODN). AODN members form a community of friends of Africa and organisations from accross the region who believe in the potential of open data in helping achieve the Continent’s development agenda.
Through this MoU, and with the support of its members, GODAN will increase advocacy efforts towards increased availability, access to, and use of open data in support of agricultural and nutrition initiatives.
The two organisations will also use this collaboration to offer members the potential to co-convene events (workshops, briefings, Webinars…) that support advocacy and capacity building in African countries. The GODAN Network’s agenda to support members in open data advocacy links seamlessly with the African Union countries’ goals to strengthen the agriculture and nutrition open data ecosystems.
