It is motivated and inspired by the fact that many organisations (public or private) see great value in continuing this discussion about what such an ecosystem could look like. The initial publication of the paper on a global data ecosystem by GODAN and Syngenta found a lot of interest in the community and more than 60 people subscribed to the working group between December 2016 and the summer of 2017.
The chairs considered the activities for 2017 and 2018 and decided on two important action lines:
The eROSA project is working on a foresight study on road maps for Information Infrastructure in Agricultural research and development. A first stakeholder workshop has started to map resources of the data ecosystem. The report of this stakeholder workshop is available here. The second workshop on November 27 and 28 in Wageningen, will work on the vision for data infrastructure. The members of the GODAN data ecosystem WG are encouraged to participate in this workshop. A registration page will soon be opened
GODAN Action is a DFID-funded project on improving standards and capacity for data sharing. A specific pilot in the GODAN Action project is the strengthening of standards and capacity for the sharing of weather data. All members of the GODAN data ecosystem WG are encouraged to participate in this pilot. If members of the WG are involved in weather data sources, they should contact the chairs to include these sources into the assessment.
A physical meeting of the Data Ecosystem WG is envisaged for 2018.
