Immediate & Transparent Publishing
F1000Research is an Open Research publishing platform for life scientists, offering immediate publication of articles and other research outputs without editorial bias. All articles benefit from transparent refereeing and the inclusion of all source data.
Submitting an article is easy with the single-page submission system. The in-house editorial team carries out a basic check on each submission to ensure that all policies are adhered to.
Publication & Data Deposition
Once the authors have finalised the manuscript, the article (with its associated source data) is published within a week, enabling immediate viewing and citation.
Open Peer Review & User Commenting
Expert referees are selected and invited, and their reports and names are published alongside the article, together with the authors' responses and comments from registered users.
Authors are encouraged to publish revised versions of their article. All versions of an article are linked and independently citable. Articles that pass peer review are indexed in external databases such as PubMed, Scopus and Google Scholar.
Increased citation and usage
A number of research papers have shown that open access articles are viewed more often than articles that are only available to subscribers, and are cited more often.
Research published in one journal found that articles published with open access not only have higher total downloads, but experience a more sustained number of downloads over a longer period. This supports previous studies which found that open access articles are viewed three times more than non-open access content.
Greater public engagement
Open access data can also enable researchers to carry out collaborative research on a global scale, which can have the power to bring significant change to the world. Various projects in agriculture and nutrition was enabled by the use of open research and data, with all data made openly available for other researchers to reuse.
