Territorial Living Lab

Murang'a Territorial Living Lab for Food Systems Transformation

A shared setting for action, research, learning, and investment — connecting agroecology, enterprise, school meals, FoodFarmacy, inclusive finance, and digital services through community-anchored LESH.

From community institutions to food systems transformation

Local Enterprise and Services Hubs (LESH) provide the community institutional foundation for this approach. They connect community organizations, local professionals, youth, enterprises, universities, and government around locally defined priorities. Through LESH, people participate as producers, service providers, innovators, investors, and decision-makers.

Guided by the Kiringai 9Ses of Institutional Transformation Readiness, the Living Lab helps identify the institutional capabilities and financing needed to turn local priorities into sustainable outcomes. Inclusive finance supports this process by enabling investment in community participation, enterprises, services, and the capabilities needed to sustain them.

Building toward a Food Systems Center of Excellence

The Living Lab provides a practical foundation for developing a Food Systems Center of Excellence — bringing community experience, research, and investment together to strengthen evidence, skills, quality assurance, and policy learning.

Our ambition is to translate learning from local implementation into approaches that other territories can assess, adapt, and apply. Communities remain active partners in generating knowledge, shaping investment, and evaluating results.
